Chimney & Fireplace Services We Provide in Los Angeles

Chimney Inspection

A chimney inspection is the starting point for any chimney work — and in Los Angeles County, it’s required documentation for most real estate transactions. We perform all three NFPA 211 inspection levels:

We provide written reports for all inspection levels. Most Level 1 and Level 2 inspections are completed in a single visit.

Chimney Repair

We handle the full range of chimney repair work, from targeted fixes to full rebuilds. Common repairs include:

If your chimney has cracked mortar, water staining on interior walls, or a damaged crown, get it looked at before the next rain season. Water damage in a chimney compounds fast.

Chimney Cleaning

Creosote buildup is the leading cause of chimney fires. The NFPA recommends cleaning at least once a year for wood-burning systems — more often for heavy users. Our chimney sweep service covers the full system: flue liner, firebox, smoke chamber, smoke shelf, and damper. We use commercial vacuums and drop cloths throughout. Your living room stays clean.

Chimney Caps

A chimney without a cap is an open invitation for birds, squirrels, debris, and rain. We install and replace chimney caps in stainless steel, copper, and galvanized steel across all chimney types. Cap installation is one of the most cost-effective preventive measures a Los Angeles homeowner can take.

Gas Fireplace Repair & Service

Gas fireplaces require different expertise than masonry work — and we carry both. We diagnose and repair pilot light failures, thermocouple issues, gas valve problems, burner malfunctions, and venting issues on all gas fireplace and insert types. We also handle annual gas fireplace servicing to keep the system running safely and efficiently.

Animal Prevention

Birds and animals entering through uncapped or damaged chimneys is one of the most common calls we receive across LA. We remove animals, clear nesting material, and install the right cap or screen to prevent re-entry.

Chimney Construction & Installation

From new chimney construction to full rebuilds, we work alongside builders and contractors on permitted projects in Los Angeles County. We also offer ethanol fireplace installation for homes where a traditional vented system isn’t an option.

What Makes a Los Angeles Chimney Different

Southern California chimneys face conditions that don’t apply in most of the country. Seismic activity causes gradual separation between chimney structures and the homes they’re attached to — a slow-moving problem that’s easy to miss until it becomes structural. LA’s dry Santa Ana winds during fire season make a clean, properly capped chimney more important than it would be in wetter climates. And the region’s older housing stock — craftsman bungalows, mid-century ranches, Spanish colonials — means a significant percentage of LA chimneys were built to standards that predate current safety codes.

We’ve been working on these homes since 2008. We know what to look for in each building type and we don’t recommend work that isn’t necessary.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does chimney repair cost in Los Angeles?

It depends entirely on what needs to be done. A targeted repair like crown patching or damper replacement typically runs $150–$500. Flashing repair runs $200–$600. Flue relining runs $1,500–$4,000 depending on chimney height and liner material. Full chimney rebuilds start around $3,000 and go up from there. We provide a written estimate after inspecting the chimney — no work starts until you’ve approved the scope.

How often should I have my chimney inspected in Los Angeles?

At minimum, once a year. If you’re buying or selling a home, a Level 2 inspection is required for documentation. If your chimney hasn’t been inspected in several years, start there — cleaning and repair decisions should be based on what the inspection finds, not a guess.

Do you work on gas fireplaces?

Yes. Gas fireplace repair and annual servicing is one of our most common service calls across LA. We work on all gas fireplace types including direct vent, ventless, and B-vent systems.

Do you provide free estimates?

Yes. We provide written estimates after an on-site assessment. Call or use the contact form to schedule.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. California Contractor License #960218. We carry full liability insurance and workers’ compensation for all work performed in Los Angeles County.

Can you help with a chimney inspection for a real estate transaction?

Yes. Level 2 chimney inspections with written documentation are a routine part of our work. We’re familiar with the documentation requirements for real estate transactions in Los Angeles County and can turn reports around promptly.

My chimney hasn't been used in years. Do I still need an inspection?

Yes — and it’s especially important. Unused chimneys are common nesting sites for birds and animals, and debris or nesting material can block the flue entirely. A chimney that’s been sitting closed for years may also have developed cracks, mortar deterioration, or water damage that isn’t visible without an inspection.

I had used So Cal Chimney inspection 10 years ago. But recently, we just remodeled our house and had a many decades old chimney. Tony came and inspected the chimney and told us exactly what needs to be done. He gave his expert opinion, and we planned on moving forward with repair and see what needs to be done. His quote not only was better than other contractors, but also included more work. At the end, he did what was needed for us, and on top of that, he gave us a refund of what was not needed to be done in our original agreement. Work was completed in a reasonable time frame. Will contact them again when we are ready to install the ethanol fireplace.
