The NFPA recommends a chimney inspection at least once per year, regardless of how often you use your fireplace. In Los Angeles, seasonal debris, Santa Ana wind events, and seismic activity can cause damage that isn’t visible without a professional assessment.
Yes. We inspect both wood-burning and gas fireplace systems, including gas inserts, venting connections, and burner components. If you have a gas appliance, a gas fireplace service appointment can be combined with your inspection.
A Level 1 inspection typically takes 45–60 minutes. A Level 2 with camera equipment runs closer to 1.5–2 hours. We walk you through our findings before we leave and follow up with a written report.

Yes. Unused chimneys are still exposed to weather, pests, and structural movement. Animals often nest in uncapped flues, and moisture can deteriorate the liner and masonry without any visible signs from inside the home. An inspection confirms it’s safe before you use it — or flags what needs to be addressed first.

I had used So Cal Chimney inspection 10 years ago. But recently, we just remodeled our house and had a many decades old chimney. Tony came and inspected the chimney and told us exactly what needs to be done. He gave his expert opinion, and we planned on moving forward with repair and see what needs to be done. His quote not only was better than other contractors, but also included more work. At the end, he did what was needed for us, and on top of that, he gave us a refund of what was not needed to be done in our original agreement. Work was completed in a reasonable time frame. Will contact them again when we are ready to install the ethanol fireplace.
Your chimney should work for you, not against you. Schedule a professional inspection with So Cal Chimney Services and gain peace of mind that your home is safe, up to code, and ready for the season.
